I recently purchased a volksboat and was wondering around what age it would be.It doesnt have any leaks but is in need of another coat of paint with some sanding in some dinged spots..I paid $60.00 for it and it has the original bowtie steering wheel with the Volkswagon emblem in the center.I could send more pictures if that would help.Any info on this boat would be greatly appreciated.ThanksAttached Image

Hello:
Volksboats/ Jetras were made from the mid 50s throught the 60s. The earlier ones were called Volksboats with the name changed to Jetra about 1960. If your's says Volksboat it would be a late 50s boat. There are some changes to the bottom design that could help date it.

We are having a Volksboat/Jetra rally on August 22 in south central Wisconsin. Boats in any condition are welcome.

Here is a link to show information.

VOLKSBOATs were made for just over a year, early 1959, till about April 1960. I'd say thats one of the later ones because the steering wheel is on the right.
Then the name was changed to JETRA. The JETRA was made untill the eary/mid 1960, my best guess would be 62/64.
They sold for about $500, boat only.
If you would like to send me more pictures, email jimejet@triton.net

My Dad was one of the owners of the company. Here's his picture.

Thanks

Jim
